Do I need a sword?



No. We will use a wooden sword called a Bokken.

The Katana has a sharp blade and there really is no need when learning how to use the sword.



COURSE CONTENT



REI - ETTICUTE



The sword is about control and focus and etticute is an important component to learning the Way of the Sword.



TAI SABAKI



Tai-Sabaki - Body Movements I'll cover the fundamentals of movement with a sword. Your lower half of your body operates independent to your upper body and arms.



KAMAE



here are several positions of the sword, some defensive, some offensive and some both. We will cover the main sword positions.



KENJUTSU SWORD DRAW



Drawing the sword in different ways in readiness for battle.



IAIJUTSU DRAW & CUT



Combative quick draw (and cut). The fundamental directions are covered



KENJUTSU SWORD CUTS



Cutting with the sword already drawn.



KEN-DORI - SWORD DISARM



Using Aikijutsu, several ways to disarm can be covered.



KENJUTSU DEFENCE



Defence against the sword cuts



AIKI-KEN





Sword Taking


Aikido incorporates sword disarm within its system using a wooden sword that is drawn.



KENDO





Competitive Sword Fighting.


This is the you go one-on-one in a competition manner with appropriate safety equipment ( head gear, body armor etc)



KENJUTSU





Combative Sword Fighting.


This is your battle time sword fighting with swords out of the scabbard and you engage each other..



IAIJUTSU





Combative Quick Draw


This is the next evolution of sword fighting, this time as almost self-defence like, the explosive quick draw and cut.



IAIDO





Iaido is performed solo with simulated combat situations or kata.


Iaido has emphasise on the development of mental and physical discipline, focus, awareness and absolute control.
